Evenchik passed away in San Diego, California on June 30, 2008 following a brief illness. Born in Canton, Ohio on August 10, 1926 to Arthur and Dorothy Bonart Lavin, she graduated from the Hathaway Brown School in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Wells College in Ithaca, New York. She resided in Canton, Ohio and Boynton Beach, Florida with her beloved husband of twenty-nine years, Martin R. Evenchik. Marilyn served her communities in a variety of leadership roles including as President of the Board of the Jewish Community Center and with the Jewish Federation in Canton, Ohio. She also maintained an active role in a number of fundraising events benefiting Jewish charitable causes in the Greater Palm Beach area. In addition, Marilyn was an avid sportswoman and supporter of the arts and was loved by many friends who greatly valued her warmth and friendship. Marilyn is survived by her children, Dr. Ellen Lavin and Jim Riegelman of San Diego and Robert and Donna Fischgrund of Leawood, Kansas, and her stepdaughters, Linda and Peter Kallin, Diane and Dr. Arthur Lavin, Carole Evenchik and Valerie Wolff, and Susie Bainbridge, and stepsons, Gary and Shari Winston, and Michael Winston and Barbara Fausnight, and their families, including twelve grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin R. Evenchik, and her brother, Benjamin B. Lavin. A graveside service and burial will be held on Thursday, July 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Northlawn Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at Temple Israel at 2:00 p.m. with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Marilyn Evenchik to either Temple Israel, 333 25th Street NW, Canton, Ohio 44708 or to the Jewish Community Centers of the Greater Palm Beaches, 8500 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, Florida 33472.
