Obituary

Marian Frith Stambaugh, 90, of Walnut Creek and formerly of Canton, died April 23 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home. Born in Akron on June 22, 1921, she was a lifelong resident of the Akron-Canton area until she moved to Walnut Hills Retirement Community with her late husband, Dick. Her parents, Julius and Pearl (Woody) Frith, and a sister, Vivian Floom, preceded her in death. She married Richard H. Stambaugh in Canton on August 15, 1941. Five children survive. They are R. Craig (Shirley) Stambaugh of Williamsburg, Virginia, Bruce (Neva) Stambaugh of Millersburg, Claudia (Denny) Yarnell of Louisville, Jim (Linda) Stambaugh of Louisville, and M. Elaine (Rich) Barkan of Canton. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Schreiber and Jessica Stambaugh, Carrie (Daryl) Stambaugh Bert, Nathan (Meena Ghaziasgar) Stambaugh, Matt (Megan) and Brett Stambaugh, Kristen (Brian) Bailey and Jackie Ulrich. Marian also had nine great-grandchildren, Evan, Davis and Maren Bert, James Brody Stambaugh, and Seth, Elanor, Peter, June and Isaiah Bailey. Also surviving is a sister, Geraldine Evans of Massillon, and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Floom of North Canton. Marian graduated from Kenmore High School in Akron, and attended the Akron Business School. Marian had a life-long love of drawing, which evolved into watercolor painting. She also did oils and ink drawings. She began her professional art classes with Robert Rainey of North Canton. She also studied with Ellsworth Smith, Lowell Smith, Marc Moon, Bette Elliot, Millie Klindworth, and others. Her work was representational in style and consisted of landscapes, seascapes, floral and still-life compositions. Marian did various workshops with several noted artists. She exhibited her works in numerous competitive shows, winning various awards for her paintings. Her latest award was first place in the Art is Ageless exhibit at Walnut Hills in August 2011. One of Marian's watercolors, done on location at an archaeological dig in Maine, was used as the cover for the book "Vail Site" by Dr. R. Michael Gramly. While she still painted, Marian was a member of the North Canton Little Art Gallery, Canton Art Institute and the Massillon Art Museum. Marian was a member of the former Christ United Methodist Church of Canton. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26th in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. with Pastor Dr. Nancy Conley officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. The family greatly appreciated the kind and professional care given by the loving staff at Walnut Hills.
