Maria Caripides, a beloved wife, Mother and Grandmother fell asleep with the Lord on Thursday March 26th after her courageous battle with cancer. Maria was born in Kilkis, Greece to the late Petros and Kyriaki Akritides. She came to the United States and settled in Michigan. She was a graduate of River Rouge High School and had worked at the Hoover Company retiring after 22 years of service .In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister: Parthena and a brother George. She is survived by her loving husband with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year: Constantine (Gus) Caripides of the residence. Also survived by her children: son Paul Caripides and daughters and son-in-laws: Kay & Jody Dawson and Anna & Tim McCarthy. Grandchildren: John, Aundrea and Paul Michael Caripides, Derek, Deren and Samantha Dawson and two great grand daughters: Alexis & Grace Caripides. Maria enjoyed being in her kitchen cooking and baking or outside planting flowers. There wasn't anything her hands could not create. She was a proud member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where she drew her strength and faith from. She was a dedicated member of the Koraes Society, Pontian Society and the senior citizens club. Funeral service will be Saturday 11:00 A.M. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Daniel Rogich officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday (today) from 5 -8 PM in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 710 Tuscarawas St., W. and one hour prior to the service in church on Saturday. Trisagion service will be Friday 6:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made in Maria's memory to her beloved church Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 4705 Fairhaven Ave., N.W. Canton, OH 44709.
