Margaret Papas, age 88, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in the Canton Christian Home. Born in Canton to the late Eli and Sophie (Katsaris) Papas, she was a life resident. Margaret retired from Leonard Insurance after 32 years; and was the first woman insurance agent in Stark County. She had been an American Red Cross volunteer for 51 years; in 1985 she was recognized Timken High School's outstanding alumni. Margaret's memberships included Quota Club of Canton, Canton Women's Club, Honorary member of the Canton Ballet Board, was involved with parish visitation (Rice Pudding Ministry) with Church of the Savior United Methodist. In addition to her parents Margaret is preceded in death by a brother Gust Papas. Survivors include sisters; Kathryn Edie and Evangeline Andrea, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Following Margaret's wishes a private burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Canton Christian Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Canton Christian Home Benevolent Fund, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Canton Ballet Company, Canton Symphony Orchestra, Philomatheon Society of the Blind, Stark County Chapter of the American Red Cross or charity of your choice.
