IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret "Peg"
France
September 10, 1916 – October 7, 2015
Margaret "Peg" France, 99, of Canton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, in the skilled nursing section of the Canton Christian Home. She had been a resident of the independent living section of the Home for the past year and a half, where she made many new friends. She suffered a fall in her apartment in late September and was hospitalized twice as her health failed. She then asked for, and entered, the Aultman Hospice program about a week ago. Born in McDonald, Pa., September 10, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Carolyn Bell; and had been a resident of Stark County since 1938, living in Canton and North Industry until 1972, when she moved to East Canton. Peg and her late husband George purchased the East Canton Printing Co. in 1954. At that time she was treasurer of the company and co-editor of the weekly newspaper in southern and eastern Stark County, The Press-News. The newspaper portion of the company was sold by the family in 1986. She remained involved in the day-to-day activity of the business until she and her son and daughter-in-law retired in 2014. Peg was a charter member of North Industry United Methodist Church, transferring membership to Centenary United Methodist Church near Waynesburg in 1994. She was also an avid bowler for over 50 years and was a sustaining member of several area organizations. She and George enjoyed their membership in the Gyro International fraternity of friendship, making many friends throughout the United States and Canada. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda, in 1939; and by her husband, George, in 1997. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Jane France, of Waynesburg. Jim and Peg worked together daily for 51 years "at the shop." Also surviving are granddaughters Sandra Ionno of Waynesburg, Karen (Dan) Hunt of Springfield, Ohio, grandson Steve (Joy) of Loveland, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Penny (Scott) Mullett of Kettering, Ohio; Kristen (Anthony) Tesone of Knoxville, Tennessee; Jonathan, Emma, Andrew and Benjamin Hunt of Springfield, and Eva France of Loveland; and one precious great-great-grandchild, Cecelia (Cece) Mullett of Kettering. The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to all the persons who work at the Canton Christian Home, Aultman Hospital and Aultman Hospice for their compassionate and loving care of Peg during her final days. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 12, in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 710 Tuscarawas Street West with Rev. Jamie Walters officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Canton Christian Home or Centenary United Methodist Church.
