Obituary

Lynn Scott Hamilton, age 71, of North Canton passed away on May 31, 2023, after a struggle with pancreatic cancer.   Born June 17, 1951 at Aultman Hospital, Lynn spent his entire adult life in the greater Canton area.  A 1969 graduate of Oakwood High School, Lynn went on to graduate from the College of Wooster and then got a master's degree from Miami University, which he would remind us regularly was a university before Florida was a state. While in college, Lynn and his debate partner advanced to the quarter finals of the National Debate Tournament.

He began his career at Merrill-Lynch then went into the trust business at Harter/Society/KeyBank before spending the last part of his career at Beese Fulmer Investment Management, retiring at age 70.

He was devoted to the Canton Community. He was a lifetime member of Christ Presbyterian Church in downtown Canton; past president of The Canton Student Loan Foundation; past chair of Health Foundation of Greater Massillon; a member of the executive board Buckeye Council of the Boy Scouts of America; a board member of the Rodney Klein Stock Market Museum; and an active member of Canton Rotary Club.

He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Canton Masonic Lodge #60.

Lynn is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cheryl Hamilton, son Phillip and his wife Brittney of Columbus, grandchildren Claire and Grace Hamilton, brother Larry and wife Linda, niece and nephews Lauren Van Lehn, Jeffrey Van Lehn, Brian Burch, and Mark and Stephen Hamilton.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents Clyde R. and Mary B. (Marlatt) Hamilton and by his nephew Edward (5-year-old son of Larry and Linda).

A lifelong reader and lover of history, Lynn could recite over 1000 years of British monarchy from memory and give a detailed ranking of all US Presidents.

He had a great love for pets, especially cats and black Labs.

He was a long-time fan of the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State University football program.   Like his father, Lynn never forgave Art Modell for firing Paul Brown.

Calling hours will be at Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Avenue North, Canton, Monday June 5th, 4-6 pm, with a Masonic service at 6 pm. The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 6 at 11:00 am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas Street W, Canton.
