Obituary

Louis V. Bockius III passed away on August 1, 2025. He was born March 5, 1935, to Agnes Harrison and Louis V. Bockius in Canton, Ohio. He attended first through the fifth grades at Woodland School in Canton. His family moved to Hartville in 1946, and he attended Hartville School from the 6th -12th grades and graduated from Hartville High School in 1953 where he lettered in football three years in a row. The summer he graduated, he and his friend, Johnny Bothers, drove his 1940 Plymouth Coupe to the Snowy Range National Forrest west of  Laramie, Wyoming.   They worked for the Forrest Service that summer for $1.25 an hour and stayed at an old CCC Camp. That Fall he enrolled at the University of Wyoming, School of Commerce and Industry and graduated in 1957.

Lou went to work for Diebold in Hamilton, Ohio in 1960 as an industrial engineer.  He transferred to Canton in 1963 where he was the supervisor of the industrial engineering department. He was later appointed as a vice-president and joined the Board of Directors of Diebold in April 1987. He retired as Vice President of Manufacturing for Diebold July 31, 1987, and retired from the Board of Directors of Diebold April 22, 2009, after 49 years of service. Lou started Bocko incorporated, an injection molding company which he later sold.

Lou loved working on his vintage cars and had a great love of history, especially World War II. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.  His constant support and interest in his family will be greatly missed.

Lou was preceded in death by his brother Samuel Harrison Bockius.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen; children, Blake (Maggie) Bockius, Susan (Matt) Rawley, Amy (Kevin) Crossland. Stepchildren Brooke (Mark) Cattron, Michael (Chelsea) VanBuskirk, and David VanBuskirk and was Gramps to 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and is also survived by his nephews Samuel (Tamara) Bockius and David (Susan) Bockius.

A memorial service will be held on September 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Church of Christ. Calling hours will be held 1 hour before the service from 10 - 11:00 AM in the church.
