Linda Cohen, age 73 of North Canton, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 in her home with her family by her side. She was born June 6, 1943 in Canton to Max and Florence (Cohen) Triger.
Linda graduated from McKinley High School in 1960, received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio State University, her Master's Degree in Remedial Reading Education from Akron University and her Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling from Walsh University. She began her education career as an Elementary School Teacher in Columbus then worked for the Sylvan Learning Center in Cuyahoga Falls, where she became a director. After receiving her Masters in Guidance Counseling, she came to Plain Local Schools, where she was a Guidance Counselor for Grade School, Middle School, and later High School before retiring in 2008. She continued to Tutor as a volunteer after retirement.
Mrs. Cohen was a member of Temple Israel, A Youth Group Advisor at the Temple, and member of Hadassah. She was an active member of Canton Junior League and, most recently, was a Dosent for the Canton Art Institute.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Harvey Cohen; daughter and son-in-law, Faith Cohen Carvalhaes and Andre' Cohen Carvalhaes of Boulder, Colorado; son and daughter-in-law, Greg Cohen and Lia Brozgal of Los Angeles, California; sister and brother-in-law, Karen Triger Rosenblum and Bernard Rosenblum of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two grandchildren, Jonah and Ketsia Cohen Carvalhaes.
Funeral services will be Monday August 15, at 10:00 a.m. in Temple Israel with Rabbi Jon Adland and Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Temple Israel or a charity of the donor's choice.
