Obituary

Leona Mae (Yoder) Slabaugh (82) died in Christ on January 6, 2024, after a short illness. She was born in Hartville, Ohio to the late John J Yoder and Emma N (Miller) Yoder. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at Maple Grove Mennonite Church until she married Norman Slabaugh in 2008. Then she became a member and Sunday School teacher at the Hartville Wesleyan Methodist Church. Leona worked as cook 30-plus years at St Mark's Episcopal Day Care Center, Canton, OH. She also worked a couple years in El Dorado, Arkansas at a Senior Care Center. She practiced a servanthood approach to life. One of her passions was to make flower arrangements and bouquets for the church service and for others throughout the community. She always brought flowers, food, and fellowship, including making many deliveries herself.

Leona is survived by her husband, Norman Slabaugh, sister Esther, 97, brothers, Leroy, 90, Wayne,85, and Joseph, 81. She was a mom to Greg (Leilani) Slabaugh, and Denise Rohrer, she has 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Wanda Marshal was Leona's long-time special friend.

Leona Mae is preceded by her parents, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

Services for Leona will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 2121 Smith Kramer St NE, Hartville, OH 44632. Friends may call 9:00am - 12:00 noon at Maple Grove. Interment will follow after the service at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Hartville, OH.
