Obituary

Lawrence J. (Larry) Rodek, age 94, of Canton, passed away Sunday morning in the Canton Christian Home. Born in Canton to the late John and Mary (Kovacs) Rodek, he was a life resident. Larry was a 1939 graduate of Lehman High School and announced the McKinley High School Band half-time show for many years, as his daughter was in the band. A WW II Army Veteran, Larry served as a Technical Specialist from 1942 through 1946. He was extremely proud to have participated in a visit to Washington,DC as part of the Honor Flight Program. He worked at Diebold where he met Arlene Parker at a dance. She became his wife of 43 years. Larry began working at Prudential Insurance Company in 1953 and became one of the top sales agents retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Sailing Buckeye Club. In fact, he camped on the same lot at Atwood Lake for 37 years. Larry was an active member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Christian Volunteers Sunday School Class, bowling league, golf league was a Sunday school teacher and former member of the choir. In addition, he was a 60 year member of Wm. McKinley Lodge #60, F&AM, AASR Valley of Canton and the American Legion. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife Arlene in 1992. He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Rodek and Claudia (Kenneth) Schoeneman, both of Canton; son, Michael Latshaw of Florida; four grandchildren, Derek and Kyle Schoeneman, Wendy Edwards and Chip Latshaw; brother, Robert (Shirley) Rodek of Canton; and four great grandchildren also survive. Funeral service will be Wednesday 11:00 A.M. in Westbrook Park United Methodist Church with Rev. John Mather officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 P.M. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Westbrook Park United Methodist Church 2521 12th St., N.W. Canton, OH 44708. Please sign the guest book.
