Obituary

Lawrence A "Larry" Kehl, age 89 of Canton died Monday in the Canton Christian Home after a brief illness. Born in Fairhope, OH to the late Herman E.J. & Lela (Shephard) Kehl, Larry served in the Army during WW II from 1943 to 1946 in the 70th division of the 7th Army and in the 80th division of the 3rd Army, serving in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of three Bronze Stars. Larry along with his brother Donald and sister Dorothy were the owners of The Herman Kehl Florists. Larry considered music a great blessing and gift from God. He was a baritone soloist at Christ Presbyterian Church, Soloist at Christian Scientist Church of Canton, directed choirs at Fairhope E.U.B Church, St. Paul's Methodist Church, Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, and Congregational United Church of Christ. He also played and sang in many bands including the American Legion Band, the Thayer Military Band, the Nazir Grotto Band, the Canton Symphony, the Eddie Juenemann Dance Band and the Canton Concert Band. In addition he taught flute to many students in the Canton area. He has been the assistant choir and orchestra director and a lay pastor at First Friends Church since 1980. Larry deeply loved music, his family, and God; enjoyed people especially children, travel (He was always looking for travel discounts to visit family), and helping people laugh and enjoy life with his jokes. We already miss him very much, but realize our loss is heaven's gain. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years: Martha M. (Zika) Kehl. Sons: David of Columbus, Jonathan of Driggs Idaho, Douglas of Curlew, Washington. Daughters: Laurel Kehl of Willow Grove, PA, Emilie (Michael) Zabel of Boardman. Grandchildren: Joshua (Dee) Zabel, Adam (Brandie) Kehl, Benjamin (Andrea) Zabel, Valerie Zabel Hall, Cassidy Kehl, Daniel (Elisa) Zabel. Great Grandchildren: Jackson, Emilie, Molly, Isaiah, Paityn, Annabelle, Evangeline,and Asher. Sister: Eileen (Fred) Schneiter of Waverly, OH, brothers: Donald (Ruth) of Louisville and Wesley (Rosemary) of Indianapolis. A memorial service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday November 16, 2012 in First Friends Church.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Those who desire may make contributions to the Canton Christian Home Benevolence Fund 2550 Cleveland Ave., N.W.
