Obituary

Kevin Raber, 52, of Hartville, passed away on June 23, 2024. God doesn't give special kids to special parents. He takes ordinary, imperfect people, and gifts them with his greatest treasures. And therein, he creates special parents. On February 24, 1972, He entrusted to Walter and Mary Louise (Weese) Raber a special child Kevin LaVerne to be born and cared for, for his kingdom. Kevin was born with CP and MRDD and unable to speak, yet he spoke volumes. He touched so many people's lives, leaving an impact on everyone he came in contact with. Kevin was loving and fun and loved to laugh and interact with people. Whether it was playing peek-a-boo, arm wrestling or simply holding someone's hand, Kevin loved well. Despite his handicap Kevin always seemed to enjoy life. Although Kevin could never walk, the image of him running into the arms of Jesus is an image that will forever be burned into our minds and hearts. The joyous greeting of those family members gone before him had to be a beautiful sight. His uncle Billy embracing him and laughing with pure joy. His grandma Ada with open arms. James pulling him in as he witnesses Kevins brand new body. What a beautiful family reunion, with Grandpa Detweiler, Grandma and Grandpa Raber, Aunts Ina, Mary Kathryn, Martha and Uncles Henry and Lester. All of them greeting him with a "welcome home Kevin."

His memory will always live on in his brother Ken (Tammy) and sister Karina. His nieces and nephews, Megan, Justin, Evan (Aubrey), Nathan (Alex), Alexis (Nick), Payton and Maddie. Three great nieces Cailin, Malin and Georgia. Many aunts and uncles.

Kevin was so loved and well taken care of by the staff and caregivers at Hartville Meadows for the past eight years. Thank you all for loving him so much. We will always remember that joyful sound of him playing peak-a-boo with so many of you. Thank you for the memories.
