Dr. June G. Patton Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, colleague and special gift from God went with the angels to the open arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday August 19, 2010. June was born on June 11, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland to Yancey and Ruth Garner. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Maryland, her Master's in Education and Dr. of Philosophy degrees from the University of Akron. She worked at various hospitals and nursing schools during her career. She currently was Dept. Chair and Nursing Professor at Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio. Education was very important to June she never stopped learning, imparting her knowledge to her nursing students. She was a distinguished lecturer for the Sigma Theta Tau, The Honor Society of Nursing. June is survived by her loving husband of 43 years Rev. Douglas A. Patton, her children, Christy (Mike) Smith, David (Jenn) Patton. Grandchildren; Christian, Elizabeth, William, Joshua, and Austin David Smith. Cody, Xavior, Laura, Isaiah, Alexis and Malachi Patton. She is also survived by her parents Yancey and Ruth Garner, siblings: Glen (Judy) Garner, Lynn (Joe) Beczak, Beth (Mike) Gibbons, John (Irene) Garner and Yancey Jr. (Mary) Garner. June was preceded in death by her brother Curt Garner. June was a woman of grace, dedication, and unconditional love and gave "Hugs" of love to all. June has had a lifetime involvement and influence in the church. Doug and June met at the Church of the Atonement in Silver Spring, Maryland when they were 7 and 8 years old. Throughout her life June was a faithful Bible class teacher, retreat leader, nurse for Camp Wakonda and elder at John Knox Presbyterian Church. June's faith in Christ did not waver. She found great solace in Scripture verse Micah 6:8 June devoted her life to her husband, children, family, friends, the Gospel, her profession, but most of all she loved being "Mom-Mom" to her 11 grandchildren. Following cremation, the family will receive friends Monday, August 23, 2010 at John Knox Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be Tuesday 1:00 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev. Thomas Houston, Rev. David deVries and Rev. Brian Nutt officiating.
