IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia Bour
Belden "Tiny"
July 13, 1920 – September 17, 2017
Julia Bour Belden died Sunday, September 17, at the age of 97 after a very brief illness. Since childhood she was known by her nickname of Tiny. She was born in Canton on July 13, 1920 to Raymond J. and Julia (Entwistle) Bour. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dan M. Belden, Sr., and by her son, Michael B. Survivors include, sister, Gerry Henrich of Venice, FL, who is 100 years old; daughter, Mary K. (Thomas) Ciccarelli of Canton, GA, daughter -in-law, Mary of Beverly Hills, MI; and sons Dan, Jr. and Stephen F., both of Canton, Andrew J. of Guilford, CT, Christopher B. of Ridgefield, CT, and Patrick R. of Ann Arbor, MI; fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Having lost her father to typhoid fever in 1924, she went on to graduate from McKinley High School at the age of 16, skipping a grade because of strong academic performance. She then worked several years at Hercules Motors as a secretary, helping support herself and her widowed mother. She married Dan Belden, Sr. in 1942. Their first child was born in 1944 when Dan was fighting in the US Army in Europe in WWII. He was badly wounded in the invasion of Germany, returning after weeks in a British hospital to Julia and their nine month old son, whom she had cared for during that most difficult time. Julia had two additional children before in 1950 she was stricken by a serious attack of polio. In the days after the attack, a doctor told her in her hospital room that she would not be able to live out the week, missing his prediction by 67 years. Told she would indeed survive but would never walk again, she took up golf and played until she was over 90. Julia belonged to a great many institutions and organizations, including St. Peter Church in Canton, St. Jude Church in Tequesta, FL, Brookside, Oakwood, and Tequesta country clubs, the Junior League of Canton, the Line and Design Garden Club, the DAR, the Visiting Nurse Society of Mercy Hospital, the board of the Aultman Home, and many others. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. John E. Sheridan as celebrant. The procession will form at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 710 Tuscarawas St., W. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Peter's Church 726 Cleveland Ave., N.W. Canton, OH 44702. Please sign the guest book.
