Judy Clegg

Judith "Judy" Clegg, 85, of North Canton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026 after a brief illness. 

Born on March 13, 1941, in Mansfield, Ohio, Judy was the beloved daughter of Melvin and Kathleen (Carter) Hales and older sister to brothers Meredith and Lloy Hales. She graduated from Alliance High School before earning her bachelor's degree in theater and education from Mount Union College. Judy devoted her career to teaching in the Alliance City Schools, where she inspired generations of students teaching first through eighth grade. Her students remembered not only what she taught, but the kindness and care she showed for them. After retirement, Judy joined the PEO and continued supporting women's education. She had a lifelong love for music and the performing arts that enriched her life and touched countless others. Judy was a gifted soprano and enjoyed performing in church, rehearsing with community choirs and simply singing with family and friends. She was a longtime member of Voices of Canton and Chorus for a Cause with whom she performed in Paris just a few weeks before her passing. She sang until her final days, a testament to the deep love she had for music. Judy also embraced the stage through community theater, where she participated in more than twenty productions with local theater groups, including the Carnation City Players. Above all, Judy cherished her family. 

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, humor, and unwavering support made everyone around her feel loved. Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David, in 2002.She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Heather (David) Corey and Kathleen "Katie" Mason; her son, Robert (Susan) Lose; and her seven grandchildren, Jacob and Ethan Corey, Dylan and Dane Mason, and Downing, Nick and Bobby Lose; as well as the many extended family members, former students, fellow singers and friends who will forever remember her kindness, beautiful voice, and generous heart.

A private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, at Arnold Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave. N., Canton, Ohio.Although her voice has been silenced here, the music she shared and the love she gave will always echo in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chorus for a Cause or Planned Parenthood.
