Josephine Gerber (Herbruck) passed away March 2, 2009 after a long illness. She was born in Akron, OH on January 19, 1915 to the late Karl and Nell (Ochsenfeld) Herbruck and was also preceded in death by her sister, Jane Burnosky. Her great-grandfather, Rev. Peter Herbruck was one of the founding fathers of Stark County. In 1933 she graduated from Mt. Marie School for Girls and Heidelberg College in 1937. A long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, she held the honor of being one of the first female Eucharistic Ministers for the Diocese of Ohio and for many years was on the Vestry and in charge of the Altar Guild. She was retired from the Stark County District Library after spending many years as a librarian and later as a volunteer, especially at the 25th Street Library. She also traveled many distant places with her friends and daughter. The places near and far she saw and the people she met made for many warm memories. Josephine decided to attend Walsh University at the age of 84 majoring in English History; ending up in their honors program. She also volunteered at the Canton Museum of Art and enjoyed drawing. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Alvarez of Canton, OH with whom she lived; and son, Timothy (Sharon) Gerber of Canton, OH; granddaughter, Christine Alvarez of Greenwood, SC; grandsons, Michael Alvarez of Aspen, CO and Mark Alvarez of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jonathan & Jack; step-granddaughter Stacy Feller and step-great-grandchildren, Lyndsey and Corey; nieces Caroline (Don) Soldatis of Boardman, OH; Barbara Williams of Chicago, IL and nephew Frank (Lynne) Burnosky, Jr. of Canton, OH and a special cousin, Caroline (Herbruck) DesPrez of Ft Myers, Fl. The funeral will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Canton, OH Saturday March 7, 2009 at 10:00 am officiated by the Rev. Dr. Barbara Bond. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the Stark County Alzheimer's Association.
