Josephine G. Baker, 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday Dec. 22, 2015 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born in Canton June 9, 1923 to the late Phillip & Barbara (Koury) George, Josephine was a 1941 graduate of Timken High. There was nowhere in Canton she could go without knowing someone. She was employed by The Hoover Co. during WWII. She was also a long time cook for The Sveden House, Myers Nursing Home, and Tam-O- Shanter Golf Course. Josephine volunteered for many years at Timken Mercy Hospital. Preceded in death by her husband Virgil J. Baker. Survived by her sister, Laura Mottice, of Massillion. Children: Phillip Baker (Maryann) of Atlanta GA., Bonnie (Billy) Miller of North Canton, Dennis Baker (fiance Denise Zimmer) of Louisville, James Baker (Diane) of Canton, and Robert Baker of Winter Haven, FL. Grandchildren: Angela ( Aaron ) Chevraux, Jenna (Sam) Mollet, Matt ( Amanda) Baker, Jessica Baker, Alexa ( Anthony) Goffus, Danielle Baker, Evan Baker and six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Cypress Point at St. Luke's Nursing Home and Compassionate Care Hospice for all the love and care given to her. Funeral service will be 11am, Monday, January 4, 2016 in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave NW. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. on Sunday Jan 3, 2016. Josephine will be laid to rest next to her husband on what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
