IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph
Zoldan
January 22, 1932 – February 14, 2025
Joseph "Joe" Zoldan, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend peacefully passed away on February 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe is survived by the love of his life, Becky, and together they shared an amazing marriage of 66 years. Joe was an incredible father to daughter Janis (Douglas) Weintraub, and sons Michael (Janie of Blessed Memory) Zoldan and Scott (Janine) Zoldan. He was loved by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Joe was born on January 22, 1932, in Minerva, Ohio to Jeanette and Harry Zoldan. He was the youngest of four children and graduated from Minerva High School before enrolling in The Ohio State University. While attending college, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was later deployed to Orleans, France. Joe returned to Columbus, OH, graduated from Ohio State and later met his wife, Becky, before moving to Canton, Ohio to begin their lives together.
Joe was an active congregant at both Agudas Achim and Shaaray Torah Synagogues in Canton, Ohio. He also managed the Canton Hebrew Cemetery for the synagogues for almost 25 years. Joe is a Past National Commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA where he and Becky proudly traveled to represent Jewish veterans worldwide. This included an audience with the Pope in Vatican City during his commandership.
Among his many business endeavors, Joe was most proud to carry on his father's legacy in the scrap metal business, passing it on to the next generation, and maintaining relationships and an active role in the business until the end of his life. At just 12 years old, he uniquely obtained a wartime driver's license to operate a scrap truck between their family yard and businesses throughout Ohio.
Joe often marveled at how what started in Minerva blossomed into an endless amount of stories and life experiences which he proudly shared with everyone he encountered. Joe will always be remembered for his positive outlook on life and as an avid fisherman.
Joe's legacy lives on with his family, grandchildren Lindsay (Ryan) Heksch, Ross (Taylor) Weintraub, Alexis (Shawn) Schlessel, Gabrielle (Jacob) Miller, Carly (Taylor) Edwards, Harrison Zoldan, Andrew Zoldan (Fiancee Brittany Davega), Josh Zoldan, Julian van der Horst, Sam van der Horst, and great grandchildren, Violet Heksch, William Heksch, Sylvia Schlessel, Madden Weintraub, Ellis Heksch, Elsie Edwards, Jane Schlessel, Della Edwards, Miles Miller, Leo Miller, and Josie Weintraub.
