Obituary

Joseph T. Williams, age 92, Wonderful Father, Grandfather and Friend departed this earthly life on July 18, 2010. He was born in Greenville, PA to Thomas & Josephine (Mansour) Williams. In 1940, he enlisted in the Air Force, served from 1940 to late 1945 in the Pacific Region, serving at Panama Canal, Saipan, Guam, and Tera Air Base. He received numerous medals as he reached Master Sergeant status. He returned to Canton and during the next ten years he owned a restaurant and a neighborhood grocery store. Joseph worked at the Timken Co. for the next twenty seven years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years Ann (Mangeris) Williams in 1994, a daughter JoAnn Williams in 2000 and his brother William. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: William and Denise Williams of Canton. Daughter and son-in-law: Elaine and Ted Sofis of Pittsburgh, PA. Five grandchildren: JoAnn Sofis Gibson, Phillip & Timothy Sofis, Tara (Andy) Ziegler, and Kelsey Williams, who loved their Jiddo. Brother: Edward (May) Williams, plus sisters: Josephine Seif & Mary Ezzie of Beirut, Lebanon. Numerous nephews & nieces who have been an active part of his entire life; Najat Nader of Los Angeles, Thomas Williams, Joan (Michael) Ezzie of Columbus, Joseph (Lydia) Williams of Solon, B.J. (Maro) Seif, Dr. George (Claudia) Williams, Salim (Eugenie) Seif of Beirut, Lilly (John) Rambacher, Frank (Sue) Diamond, Faye Sprague and Dr. Jerry (Parry) Kokalis of Pittsburgh. Special cousins: Dr. Joseph Thomas, Joseph Ezzie, and Oscar Azzam. Everyone loved him and he them, especially the residents and staff at the Canton Regency. He was proud to have served his country and equally proud of his Maronite Lebanese heritage. He was a founding member of The Canton Phoenician Club, and The Stark County Lebanese-American Assoc. He will be missed by all, for his kindness touched everyone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday 10:00 A.M. in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Msgr. John C. Finnigan as officiant. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W.
