Joseph S. Soter, age 77, of Canton, Ohio, and formerly of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on August 13, 2024. Born on September 21, 1946, in Dayton as one of five children, Joe was a proud graduate of Chaminade High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and spent his career in Public Works with the City of Dayton. After a brief retirement, Joe returned to work at Chaminade Julienne High School where he was a beloved maintenance man.
Known affectionately as "Mr. Fix it," Joe enjoyed tinkering with old cars and motorcycles, fishing, whistling, skiing, and coaching soccer. However, his most cherished role was that of "Paw" to his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Tannis Cook Soter; daughters Nicole (Anthony) Wolters and Lindsey Soter (Joe Moberg); grandchildren Jack, Miles, Tannis, and Wren Wolters; siblings John Soter, Regina (Joe) Berkemeier, and Wesley Soter; sister-in-law Peggy Soter; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Soter, and his brother, William Soter.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service has been scheduled for October 18, 2024, at 6 PM at Polen Farms, 5099 Bigger Road, Kettering, Ohio 44450
