Joseph H. Shorr, age 92, of Canton, passed away Thursday January 23, 2014 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on July 15, 1921 Henry and Lottie (Cristul) Shorr. He graduated from Lehman High School, studied at The Cleveland School of Art, and graduated from the US Army photo/map-making school, and was a WW II Army Veteran. Joe Shorr was known as a generously kind and artistically prolific designer locally and nationally. As co-founder of the award-winning Frease & Shorr Advertising, and community leader, his service, leadership and contribution of talent had artistic impact in Canton and beyond through his design, partnership and influence in corporations, non-profits, local initiatives and philanthropies. Always open to help and give his time and talent where he could, Joe's gifts ranged from mentoring aspiring young art students to guiding entire community initiatives and creating his own brand of unique designs, appreciated internationally. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley; daughters Carol Pomerantz of CA; Dr. Susan Shorr and Dennis Mitman of Cincinnati; grandchildren Brooke and Jill Pomerantz of CA, Amy Mitman and Andy Goloboy of Boston, MA and Todd and Samantha Mitman of Atlanta; great grandchildren Charlotte and Paige Goloboy and Lilly and Alexandra Mitman. Preceded in death by brother Morris Shorr. Funeral services will be Sunday 1:00 PM at Shaaray Torah Synagogue in Canton, Ohio with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. Final resting place is Canton Hebrew Cemetery. The family will observe Shiva at Shaaray Torah Synagogue, 4-6:30 PM Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to Shaaray Torah Synagogue.
