Joseph Quinn Whipple, Jr., 66, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on August 5, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Joe was the elder son of local wildlife artist Joseph Quinn Whipple and Nancy (Williams) Whipple, both deceased. Joe is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Joseph Quinn III and Christine Whipple of Deland, FL; his granddaughters Michaela Whipple of Massillon, OH and Hannah Whipple of Deland, FL; Joe's siblings Mary Jane and husband Joe Marmo of Schenectady, NY, Ted Whipple of San Francisco CA, and Elizabeth and husband Roger Foote of Powell TN; Other family members include nephew David DeMartini and niece Denise DeMartini-Griffin, her husband Scott, and great-nephew Derik Griffin. Joe also leaves behind his long-time friend, his nearest and dearest, Brenda Stevenson of North Canton. As a youth, Joe was an active member of Boy Scouts of America where he gained his love of camping and all outdoors, a love that was further enhanced by family camping trips during summers at Leesville Lake, Ohio. Joe's passion for nature was highlighted by an occasion to twice drive the AlCan Highway to Alaska where he lived and worked for a year. Joe was an avid woodworker and hand crafted shaker style furniture for his family and friends. Joe graduated from Lehman High School in Canton and studied at Kent State University, later graduating from the Culinary School of Chicago. A skilled baker, he was employed at Giant Eagle bakeries until his retirement in 2012. He was a member of the Bakers Local Union #19. A generous and caring man who loved to laugh; Joe was a committed Christian who was much loved, richly blessed, and who will be truly missed by family and friends. A memorial service to honor Joe will be August 24 at 11 a.m. at Christian Ministries, 1305 State Street, North Canton, Ohio, 44720. A light luncheon will follow the celebration of Joe's life.
