Joseph R.
Hertzi
March 26, 1932 – April 20, 2018
Joe was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Judith Harmon Hertzi; parents, Elizabeth and Joseph Hertzi Sr.; brother, Donald Hertzi; and sister, Eileen Toner. He is survived by his brother, Arthur Hertzi; daughters, Lisa Hertzi and Emily Cornelius; grandchildren, Ben, Grace and Danny Cornelius; and his cat, Meme.
Joe was awarded his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Akron Art Institute School of Design in 1954 and married Judi in 1956. He pursued further studies at Ohio State and Kent State University.
He was hired by the Canton Art Institute in 1956 as Director of Education. In 1961, he assumed full directorship and served the art community for 38 years (1956-1994). His passion and love for the visual arts touched the lives of countless students and friends. He embraced the creative process in his own work from oil and acrylic paintings, to Beadcicles and rock sculptures.
Joe also enjoyed music, his pets, the Island and his lifetime collaboration with Judi. Dedication to his family and the art world, as well as his sweet and funny nature has enriched us all.
