John Denman Trotter, born November 11, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026, with his beloved wife by his side. He lived a full and meaningful life, defined by his faith, his devotion to family, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering commitment to helping those he loved build bright and fulfilling futures.
Above all else, John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan, their three sons and spouses, and his beloved grandchildren. John is also survived by his siblings, Mary, Frank, and Roby.
Faith was an important foundation of John's life, guiding his values and shaping the way he cared for his family. He believed in working hard, pursuing opportunities, and providing his sons with the tools and encouragement they needed to find their own paths. His greatest measure of success was not simply what he accomplished personally, but the foundation he built for the generations that would follow him.
John also believed that life was meant to be lived fully. He loved his dogs, adventure, and travel, and he embraced the opportunities that came with each new chapter of life. His career brought considerable success, including numerous work-related relocations and promotions. Through these experiences, he demonstrated ambition, adaptability, and a willingness to take on new challenges. His family is immensely proud of all he achieved throughout his professional life.
Yet, for all of his professional accomplishments, John's favorite pursuits were often those he could share with his sons. Whatever their interests or hobbies, John wanted to be part of them. He found joy in showing up, participating, learning alongside them, and making memories together. His enthusiasm for their interests reflected something central to who he was; a father who wanted to be present, involved, and connected to the people he loved most. These moments were often filled with laughter, and John's unmistakable laugh and infectious smile made time spent together all the more memorable. They were expressions of his enthusiasm for life and a reminder of the happiness he found in being with the people he loved.
John's legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the values he instilled, the opportunities he worked to provide, and the example he set through his faith, determination, and love. He leaves behind a family who will continue to honor his life by carrying forward the principles he held dear and by embracing the same spirit of adventure, dedication, and devotion to one another.
Though he will be deeply missed, John's life will continue to be celebrated through the many memories he leaves behind and the generations who will carry his legacy forward. His family takes comfort in the life he lived, the love he gave, and the lasting impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him. His donation to Alzheimer's research serves as his final expression of generosity, hope, and forward-looking spirit that defined his life.
John's greatest accomplishment was the family he loved, the lives he helped shape, and the legacy that will continue long after him. The family extends its deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers and staff at The Homestead at GentleBrook memory care facility, who provided exceptional care, dignity, and kindness during the three and a half years John called it home. We are also sincerely thankful to the team at CADES, whose support, friendship, and enriching programs brought comfort, purpose, and joy during an important chapter of his journey. Special appreciation is extended to The Care Team Hospice, whose exceptional care, compassion, and guidance during the past year provided comfort not only to John but to our entire family. We will be forever grateful to each of these organizations and the remarkable people who cared for him with such respect, patience, and love throughout his journey.
