John G. Smith, age 84, of Hartville went home to be with the Lord on Sunday November 13, 2011 in the comfort of his home with family by his side. He was born in Kent, Ohio on October 5, 1927 to the late Clifford Dewey and Mary Elizabeth (McCartney) Smith. He graduated from Hartville High School. John's strong work ethic began when he was 8 years old when he learned to mow and work in the muck farms. He retired after 46 years of service from Teledyne Monarch Co. John had been a caretaker for Mount Peace Cemetery. His favorite hobbies were woodworking, making doll houses for his granddaughters, fishing, hunting and golfing. Preceded in death by his wife Clarice R. Smith on March 11, 2010 and 3 sisters Gladys McClintock, Edna Smith and Mary Bontrager. He is survived by his children Carol and Ray Bixler of Uniontown, Debbie and Jim Green and Tim Smith all of Hartville; grandchildren Heather and Ken Raber, Jason and Sage Bixler, Shannon and Steve Brant, Steven and Corey Green, Eric Smith, Stephanie (Dave Steele) Smith; great-grandchildren Megan, Justin, Evan and Nathan Raber, Kagan and Callan Bixler, Nolan, Carter and Demi Brant, Aiyanna, Faith and Charity Smith; other relatives and friends including Cheryl Rae and Stroker. Calling hours will be Thursday 4-8 PM at the Arnold Funeral Home Hartville. Funeral services will be Friday 11 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Henry Shrock officiating.
