John W. Harman, age 21, of Canton passed away tragically Thursday June 29, 2006 while working on the ship, Calumet on Lake Erie. Born in Canton on November 3, 1984 to Glen and Roseanna (McCoy) Harman, he was a 2003 graduate of GlenOak High School where he was on the speech and debate team. Currently John was a U.S. Merchant Mariner and student at Lorain Community College. John worked for West Marine in North Olmstead, the Best Buy in Elyria and previously operated Harman Lawn Care. He was an Eagle Scout and Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #126 of Our Lady of Peace and recently completed the Northern Tier 80 mile canoe trip in Minnesota and hiked Filmont. Preceded in death by his grandfathers, William McCoy and Glen Harman Sr.; he is survived by his parents Glen and Roseanna; sister, Kristi; grandmothers, Elizabeth McCoy of Spencer,WV and Ruth Harman of Canton; aunts and uncles, Pam and Greg Harrison of CA, Marge and Jack Byerly of MI, Shirley Atkins of New Philadelphia; great aunts and uncles, Velowr Wirth of Canton, Mary Jane and Jim Pochedly of Hiram, OH, Louise Kindel of TN, Ruthann and Jake Evans of Salem,OH, Becky and John Patterson of TX, Rita and Emil Schmidt of WV, Sherry and Greg Kell of WV; numerous cousins; girlfriend of several years, Maggie Stipe and her parents, Tom & Sue Stipe and family of Cleveland. Calling hours are Sunday 2-6:00 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Pastor Emeritus Fr. John Nentwick celebrant. Final resting place is Sunset Hills Burial Park.
