IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Willard
Grubb
June 27, 1936 – June 8, 2006
John W. Grubb, a long time resident of San Jose, California passed away peacefully on June 8, 2006 at the age of 69. John was born in North Canton, Ohio on June 27, 1936 to John E. Grubb and Thelma (Mason) Grubb. He excelled in sports through school and was awarded many high achievements including a nomination by Stark County Coaches to the All Five County Basketball Team. After working as a driver/salesman with the Snyder Oil Company and as a patrolman for the city of Orrville, he relocated to San Jose, California. He worked for Unocal Company as a sales representative for thirty years before retiring in 1994. John enjoyed spending time with his family, photography, traveling, electronic gadgets, early morning walks, and bird watching. During retirement, John became especially interested in genealogy and was most successful in tracing his family history. The Grubb family origins trace to about 1540 with Thomas Grubb living in Stoke Climsland in Cornwall, England. Thomas was followed by Henry Sr., Henry Jr., and then John and his brother Henry who sailed from London on the ship Kent in 1677. They landed in Salem, NJ and later settled Grubbs Landing, Pennsylvania on the Delaware River which remains today. John's son Peter Grubb Sr. and his son Curttis were patriots in the Revolution in Pennsylvania. Curttis was the father of Jehu Grubb, who was an early pioneer in Stark County, Ohio. The family line continues from Jehu Grubb to George Grubb to John A. Grubb to Oliver Lewis Grubb, to John Edwin Grubb, who was John Willard Grubb's father. John is survived by Erna Grubb, his wife of 39 years; children, Barbara Clem, Valerie Alsip, Monica Grubb and Michael Grubb; grandchildren Stacy Hersh, Wendy and Dustin Humrichouser, Jonathan and Jacob Clem; two sisters, Dorothy Replogle and Mary Ann Besse as well as many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Evonne Kay Grubb, former wife Marilyn Marie Marthey, and nephew Mark Alan Replogle. A memorial service in California will be held at the Clovis Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 14 at 11:00 AM, with visitation 10-11 AM. John's request was to be laid to rest in Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 17 at Arnold's Funeral Home in Hartville with Pastor Lynn Besse officiating. Visitation is Friday night 7-9 PM and Saturday 10-11 AM at Arnold's. A graveside dedication will follow at St. Jacob's Cemetery where Ohio-branch Grubb descendents have been laid to rest since 1854. The family respectfully requests that remembrances be made to the American Heart Association or to a favorite charity. Please sign the guestbook at www.arnoldfuneralhome.com
