IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John G.
Evans
August 9, 1927 – August 29, 2008
John G. Evans, age 81, of North Canton left to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 29th, 2008. John served two separate tours in the United States Air Force during WWII and the Korean War. He played football and received a bachelor's degree from Ohio University. He was hired to coach football under Lee Tressel at Massillon High School and Ashland College. He was the football and wrestling coach at Glenwood High School, where he met his wife of forty-six years. After being the head football coach at Perry, he pursued his master's degree at Ohio University and worked for Goodyear Aerospace until he retired in 1991. John was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, and the Stark County High School Wrestling Hall of Fame. John may be remembered for his love of football and the many lives he touched as a coach, however, his players will remember him more as a coach of life. He will be sadly missed by his family, especially his beloved wife and best friend, Sally; children John (Kimberly) and Trisha (Mike); grandchildren Clayton, Braeden, Evan, and Kylyn; sister Margaret Noftsinger, and sister in law Norma Jean Evans. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Evans. We are so grateful for the time we had with John. He was a blessing in all our lives, and we look forward to the day we will be reunited in Heaven. Services will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Tuesday, September 2nd at 7pm with Father Erwin Smuda officiating. Please join us at the church to commemorate John's life through pictures and memories beginning at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church 515-48th St.,NW, Canton, OH 44709, or to Palliative care and Hospice, 2821 Woodlawn Ave.,NW, Canton, OH 44708.
