JOANNE "CURLY" HUDAK, age 77, of North Canton, died Saturday, Aug. 25th in Aultman Hospital following a short illness. She was born Jan. 23, 1930, in Youngstown to the late Mannie and Florence Goldman. Raised in Cleveland, she met her future husband Paul, who passed away in 1977, at Kent State. She then lived the rest of her life in the Canton area following her marriage in 1950. She was a retiree of State Farm Insurance where she worked for many years as an inside claims adjuster. She is survived by son Michael of the home, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Della Hudak of Canton, son Douglas of Canton, and daughter and son-in-law Florence and Rick Cathey of California. She was especially devoted to her beloved grandchildren, Becky Cathey of Columbus, Pam Cathey of California and Melissa and Tait Hudak of Cincinnati. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In her more mobile days she enjoyed garage sales with her friend Joyce Johnson, and later cherished lunches with her sister, Joy Collas of Cleveland, and her long-time friend Pat Berger of Newark. She enjoyed the company her North Canton Y pool pals including Jo Thomas, Evelyn Crawford and Inga Gibson, and was a devoted follower of her judge shows - especially Judge Judy - right up to the end. While a skeptic of organized religion, she lived every day like God was riding on her shoulder. And no Jewish woman in the history of the world ever embraced Christmas and pork chops like she did. Friends and relatives may gather at the Spiker-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. on Monday, Aug. 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., to reminisce.
