JoAnne Francis Hopton, 81, of Canton, died on July 27, 2017. JoAnne was born in Cleveland on April 26, 1936 and grew up in Maple Heights. She graduated from Maple Heights High School in 1954 and received her B.A. and M.A. in Education from Kent State University. JoAnne loved teaching and taught for over 30 years in the Plain Local School District (Frazer Elementary School) in Canton. In her retirement, JoAnne enjoyed volunteering, dedicating many hours at Aultman Hospital as a volunteer. She was also a passionate and voracious reader her entire life. JoAnne was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and a kind and loving person to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and live in our hearts forever. JoAnne is survived by her husband, Thomas Hopton; daughter, Lynn Hopton Davis; son-in-law, Greg Davis; and two grandchildren, Clayton and Haley Davis; sister, Jacqueline Wunderle; nieces, Jennifer Schlund and Laura Gorshe; and nephews, Bill Wunderle and Matt Wunderle. She was preceded in death by her parents, John David Lawson and Francis Edna Greenough Lawson. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 1st from 12:00-2:00pm in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Avenue NW. A private Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery for the family.
