Joan (Lazarus) Martino, age 55, of North Canton, passed away Wednesday morning in the Cleveland Clinic following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 28, 1950 in Canton to Melvin and Elaine (Roth) Lazarus. Joan was a graduate of Glenwood High School and attended The University of Cincinnati and Ohio State University. For several years she was a teacher's assistant at Campus Pre-School at John Knox Presbyterian Church. While her daughter was in the North Canton School System, Joan volunteered at the elementary school and middle school. In recent years, she was a participant and advocate for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Her true passion was her devoted family whom she loved unconditionally. She is survived by her husband, Ron Martino; a daughter, Allison, a senior at Denison University; parents, Melvin and Elaine Lazarus of North Canton; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary Lazarus of Millbrae, California and father-in-law Joe Martino of Canton. Funeral services will be Friday 11:00 a.m. at Temple Israel with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
