Jill Ewers

Jill A. Ewers, age 81, of Canton, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, August 20, 2026, with her daughter Kelly Seefong by her side.

Born on September 28, 1944, Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Walter “Bud” Smith (1972) and Dorothy E. Smith (2004).

Jill retired from Canton City Schools in 2002, where she spent many dedicated years as the secretary to multiple principals at McKinley High School. Throughout her career, Jill was far more than an administrative presence; she served as a trusted safe space for students, offering a listening ear, warm encouragement, and unconditional support. Her patience and caring manner touched the lives of countless young people, helping guide many on their educational and career paths.

Following her retirement, Jill continued her deep commitment to serving others. In 2005, she became the Soup Kitchen Director for the Salvation Army, where her tireless efforts led to her being named Volunteer of the Year in 2007. Under her leadership, the program provided warm meals to over 400 men, women, and children each week.

Jill gave freely of her time to anyone in need, inspiring many with her quick wit, wry sense of humor, kind words, and bright smile. Her perspective on life was always grounded in finding the humor in any situation, bringing warmth and light to those around her.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Inn at Belden Village for their compassionate care and kindness provided to Jill during her stay.

Jill is survived by her daughter, Kelly A. Seefong (Jeff Humphreys) of Massillon, her granddaughter, Carly Seefong, her grandson, Joshua Seefong and her great-grandchildren, Maverick and Milani Seefong, and her dear friends, Chris Confalone and George Kutinsky.

Friends may call on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 4-6 PM at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave North, Canton. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00 PM. Entombment on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 1 PM at Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jill's honor to the Domestic Violence Shelter or to The Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
