Obituary

Dr. Jerry C. Archer, 1931-2016

Dr. Jerry C. Archer, 85, of Hartville, a leader in the chiropractic profession in Ohio, passed away to be with the Lord on Wednesday December 14, 2016. Born July 13, 1931 to Dr. A.Y. and Gwyneth (Stokes) Archer, he was a 1949 graduate of Greensburg High School, obtained his pre-chiropractic requisites at Kent State University, and received his doctorate in chiropractic in 1954 at National University of Health Sciences in Chicago. He later received a secondary doctorate in mechanotherapy. "Doc" Archer practiced chiropractic for 62 years, finally retiring in July 2016.

Dr. Archer served in many leadership positions to further the profession of chiropractic in Ohio. He served on the pioneering board of the Ohio Federation of Chiropractic Organizations when the Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA) was formed in the 1960's, and was instrumental in the formation of the Chiropractic Examining Board. He was also a charter member of the American Chiropractic Association. Of the many posts that Dr. Archer held, one of the most satisfying for him was as president of the Ohio Chiropractic Roentgenological Association, an organization for post-graduate study. He had a great love for education and a curious and intelligent mind combined with a keen sense of humor.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille "Teal" (Gilbane) Archer; daughter and son-in-law Amy and Bob Beasley of Hartville and son Todd W. Archer of Massillon. Survivors also include sisters-in-law Muriel Brule (Jerry) of Pawtucket, R.I. and Virginia Gilbane of Wrentham, MA, and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister Linda A. Caruso and brother-in-law Brendan Gilbane.

He leaves many dear friends from his church, The Chapel in Marlboro, and the many organizations of which he was a member: VFW Post 3747 in Canton, American Legion Post 44, Sons and Daughters of Herman, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2370, Nazir Grotto, and the Polish-American Club. He especially loved singing karaoke with his friends at the VFW. Jerry also will be greatly missed by his patients, whom he enjoyed so much.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday December 18 at 4 PM at Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville. Calling hours will be two hours prior to the service (Sunday 2-4 PM). Pastor Joel Cochran of the Chapel in Marlboro, where Jerry was a member and former deacon, will officiate. Private burial will be at Mount Peace Cemetery in Hartville on Monday, December 19. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Archer requested gifts be sent to National University of Health Sciences, online at nuhs.edu or by mail at NUHS Office of Development, 200 E. Roosevelt Rd. Lombard, IL 60148.
