Jerome "Jerry" Zimmer, age 88 of Canton and also of Delray Beach, FL, passed away Monday morning October 15, 2007 at Aultman Hospital. Born in Cleveland on November 21, 1918 to the late Hymie and Anna (Robbins) Zimmer, he served in the Coast Guard during WW II. Jerry owned and operated Francis Jewelers in Alliance, Ohio for over 50 years. He was a member of Temple Israel. An avid golfer, he played regularly until the week before he died, when he shot a 44. He enjoyed reading and watching golf, football, basketball and baseball, especially the Cleveland teams and Ohio State. Through thick and thin, Jerry was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan. He also loved playing Gin Rummy and was the GinRumKing to all who corresponded with him by email. Having numerous health issues since he was 35 years old, Jerry overcame many obstacles and lived a full and active life to the end. His family has been blessed with many years of his charm, sense of humor and love. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who always showed his love to his family and experienced special joy from his grandchildren. People who knew him couldn't help but like him. Preceded in death by his brothers Bernard Zimmer and Irving Zimmer; he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores M. Zimmer; children, Barry H. and Sheri Zimmer of Cincinnati, Bonnie I. and Gary Scharf of Delray Beach, FL, and Bruce M. Zimmer of Cincinnati; and grandchildren, Daniel Zimmer, Rachel Scharf, Leah Zimmer and Aaron Scharf. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 1:30 PM at Temple Israel in Canton with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Final resting place is Bet Olam Cemetery in Cleveland.
