Obituary

Jeanne S. Rubin, age 90, of Canton, passed away Friday evening, September 21, 2007, in Aultman Hospital. Born September 8, 1917 in New York City, NY to the late Joseph and Rose (Rosenbaum) Spielman. Jeanne was a member of Temple Israel and served as a volunteer at the Canton Public Library and the Canton Art Museum. During her years as a full-time professor at Kent State University she served as an assistant concertmaster of Canton and Akron symphonies. She was awarded emeritus status upon her retirement in 1983. Jeanne was a three-time winner of the Joseph Fuchs competition in violin. Winner of the Ranney music scholarship competition. Director of the Juvenile MacDowell Club. Concertmaster of the Canton Symphony. First violinist in the Canton Symphony Resident String Quartet. First violinist in Bregenzerwald Cultural Festival Chamber Orchestra in Austria. Member of Blossom Music Festival faculty. Conducted Music workshops for regional American Montessori Society. Presented refereed papers at the 30th Anniversary Conference of the American Montessori Society, N.Y.C., and the 14th Congress of the International Society of Music Educators, Warsaw, Poland. Published articles on Montessori, Suzuki, Froebel and Frank Lloyd Wright in research journals of Education, Music and Architecture. Member of the Society of Architecture Historians, Authors League, Authors Guild. She was the author of the book Intimate Triangle: Architecture of Molecules, Frank Lloyd Wright, and the Froebel Kindergarten. Listed on Who's Who of American Women and Dictionary of International Biography. Jeanne also donated solo music services at area churches and temples. Preceded in death by her husband Dr. Nathan A. Rubin; son Theodore A. Rubin, granddaughter Linda Brown and sister Alice Feiman. Survived by a son Robert Rubin of Canton; grandchildren Carol Rubin of Cleveland, Sam Rubin of New York and Theodore N. Rubin of Canton; six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Carmen Rubin of Canton. This honest, loving and courageous woman gave love, support and assistance and brought joy to her family, friends and all who in any way had contact with her. She will always be loved and sorely missed and will remain in the grateful thoughts of all who knew her, for her wonderful life and the legacy of her deeds well done.
