Jean Elaine Ingber Forman Hall Age 83, of North Canton Ohio, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday May 29, after a brief illness. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 20, 1928 to Rose Levy Ingber and Louis Ingber, Jean was a stellar student, managing straight A's throughout most of her school career. Jean was especially proud to have been an alumna of Girls' High in Philadelphia, a high school for intellectually gifted young women. She was valedictorian of her high school class. (She was also proud to boast that Girls' High had no usual P.E. program, thus, she was able to take archery, croquet, and bowling, at which she excelled, and avoid the horrors - to herof team sports!) Jean went on to graduate Summa cum Laude from Temple University, with a degree in languages. Jean was fluent in five different languages. It was while attending Temple University that Jean met her first husband, Jack Forman when her father offered to give a ride to the young history student during a sudden downpour. According to Jean, it was very nearly love at first sight. The two married in August of 1950. Jack taught as a grad assistant and went to the University of Pennsylvania as a grad student, while Jean taught secondary school. The two eventually left Philadelphia for Kent, Ohio and teaching at Kent State University. In 1961, their first child Anne Jessica Forman was born, and in 1964, their second child, Jason Andrew was born. Eventually, Jean and Jack moved to Lansing, Michigan where they both taught at Michigan State University. In December of 1970, after what Jean viewed as a long period away from civilization: no deli, no good classical music near, no Jewish temple (in fact, very few other Jewish people ), the family returned to Ohio, and to Kent State University, although this time to the Kent Stark Campus, where both would spend their remaining teaching and administrative careers. After Jack passed away suddenly in 1977, Jean originated the concept, at the campus, of a Student Development Center, and became its first Coordinator, something of which she was justifiably proud. Jean also taught English for the foreign born, and was particularly fond of these students and their many accomplishments. Many of them continued to be her friends long after they had completed her course. Jean loved all languages, although Spanish held pride of place among her languages. She also continued successfully to complete complex double crostics throughout her life. Once, on a trip to visit family in Israel, Jean (who did not speak Hebrew) communicated with many using Latin! After being widowed for twenty-five years, Jean remarried in January of 2003 to her longtime family friend, Bernard Hall. Bernie and his first wife Evy, and another couple, Jan and Larry Kaplan were all at Kent State University in 1960 and became life-long friends and adopted family. When Bernie's first wife passed away, it seemed to all concerned that this marriage was fated to be, b'shert. Jean and Bernie loved each other deeply and enjoyed ten happy years of marriage. Jean was much loved by her students, and even more loved by her family. Her kindness, generosity, good guidance, and utterly intractable political liberalism will be sorely missed by all who survive her, husband Bernie of the home, daughter Anne Jessica Forman Lucilio (Joe)of Canton, son Jason Andrew Forman of New Philadelphia, granddaughter, Brittany Forman(fiancé Chris Dillon), great-grandson Brody Dillon all of New Philadelphia, brother- and sister-in-law Shelly and Phyllis Forman of Philadelphia , Pennsylvania, close cousin, Janet Rubin of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, close cousins Linda Lown-Klein(Gary) of Massachusetts and Judy Lown of London, England, beloved friends Jan and Larry Kaplan of Rockville, Maryland, many other loving friends and family, and her much-loved cat, Shana. Funeral services will be held Friday 11 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home in Canton with Rabbi Jon Adland officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
