Obituary

James Franklin Kettlewell, 67, of Canton, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 19, 2016 at his summer residence in Lakeside, Ohio. He was born on November 29, 1948 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Kenneth and Myrtle Jean (White) Kettlewell. He graduated from Ellet High School in Akron in 1967 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Edinboro State College in Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving our country during the Vietnam War. On September 2, 1972 he began a long life together with Katherine Rotilie. Most importantly, his passion in life was spending time with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. The last six years of his life were filled with wonderful experiences at their cottage at Lakeside Chautauqua. He worked hard to make a wonderful home for his family to cherish for generations to come. The educational and religious experiences he had there were invaluable to him, and the sense of community that surrounded him continues in his death. He was particularly gifted at guiding other men to explore their faith through weekly Bible study at both Lakeside and Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton. Jim was the Vice President of Nickles Bakery in Navarre, Ohio, retiring in 2011. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton, where he served as an Elder. His most enduring experience at Christ Church came through his regular attendance at the Men's Bible Study. He was a board member of Smith Dairy, and volunteered at SCORE, a counseling service of retired executives who mentor individuals wishing to start small businesses. He also enjoyed swimming, playing the accordion, writing poetry and short stories. He is survived by his wife, Katherine; daughters, Emily (Randy) Kite, Asheville, North Carolina, Hilary (Asher) McCune, North Canton, Ohio, Natalie (Ryan) Steinert, Greenwood, Indiana; grandchildren, Joy, Ada, Naomi, Tate, James, Jacob, Katherine, Lauren, Jackson, William; brother, Paul (Jane) Kettlewell, Danville, Pennsylvania; sister, Betsy (Steven) Ingram, West Chester, Ohio; mother-in-law, Lillian Rotilie, North Canton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Jack Rotilie. Friends and family may pay their respects to the Kettlewell Family at the Spiker Foster Shriver Funeral Home, 710 Tuscarawas St. West, Canton, Ohio from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday August 26, or 11:30 to 12:30 on Saturday August 27 at Christ Presbyterian Church followed by a Memorial Service at the church at 1:00.
