Obituary

James C. Dahler, 59, of North Canton, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 in the Cleveland Clinic. He battled a liver disease, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, and had been given a second chance after receiving a new liver portion from his cousin, Bonny Reed Bell, in December 2002, which lasted 14 years. Sadly, the disease had returned. Born July 29, 1957, in Canton, he was a son of the late Herman and Thelma (Reikowski) Dahler. James graduated from Jackson Memorial High School in 1975, and married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca J. "Becky" Ward, on August 2 of that same year. James worked as a baker at Ferraro's Bakery in North Canton when the couple was first married, and then became a Tool and Die Maker at Xcel Mold & Machine. He was at Xcel 24 years until the onset of the liver disease. After his transplant, he opted for a new career profession, and became a registered nurse. His last job was that of a dialysis nurse for Fresenius Medical Care. James was a truly unique individual. He had a sense of wonder, a kind heart, and a whimsical (occasionally inappropriate) humor. He had numerous and varied interests in his too-brief life, which included bicycling, motorcycling and camping. He made many friends and acquaintances that he made an effort to stay in contact with. His family wishes to thank all for their care and support. Survivors include his loving wife, Becky; sons, Christopher Dahler of Gilbert, AZ, and Nathan (Sara) Dahler of North Canton; grandchildren, Tristan, Addy and Ethan; brothers, William "Wils" and Thomas "Tom" (Deborah) Dahler; sister, Janet "Jan" (Bill) Haun and beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Honoring James' wishes, a memorial service will be 12 noon Saturday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. A private burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lifebanc, 4775 Richmond Rd., Cleveland, Ohio 44128-5919, www.lifebanc.org. Please sign the guest book.
