James F. Carpenter ,age 88, of Canton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday August 30, 2013 after a lingering illness. He was born May 23, 1925 in Macon County, North Carolina to the late John and Elizabeth (Guffey) Carpenter. He retired from Republic Steel L.T.V. Company after 35 years of service. He enjoyed working in his vegetable and flower gardens as well as woodworking. He was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple and the Ambassador Class. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Wanda (Hughes) Carpenter ; one daughter Brenda Carpenter of Florida, one step-daughter Sherry (Gary) Willis; two step-grandchildren Shane (Staci) Koerber and Jessica (Chad) Clark; step-great-grandson Chance Clark all of North Carolina; two sisters Minnie (Ralph) Hughes of North Carolina, Mary (Wallace) Watkins of Georgia; one brother David (Eunice) Carpenter of Canton; brother-in-law Monroe Thomas of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Myrtle King of Georgia, Martha Thomas of Canton; one brother Johnny Carpenter of Florida and five step-brothers. Calling hours will be Monday September 2nd from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave, N, Canton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Sept. 3rd at 11:00 AM at Canton Baptist Temple with visitation one hour prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Rev. Delaney Young will be officiating.
