Obituary

Jacquelin (Knowles) Vaughn

Jackie, age 85, passed away on Dec. 17, 2021 where our Lord, family and friends were waiting for her. She was born on April 23, 1936 to the late Alton and Helen (Cannon) Knowles in Hartville, Ohio. Jackie was very active growing up, was head majorette in the Hartville High School marching band, played the oboe in concert band, was a member of the National Honor Society, was in the Canton YWCA Synchronized Swimming program and was a member of the Hartville Tri-Sesqui Club. Jackie was co-owner of the former Hartville News and the Knowles Press, Inc. since April of 1981 along with her two sisters.

Jackie was known for her friendly, humorous personality such as helping to organize her class members to hold a sit-in outside the Superintendent's office to allow him to let the girls wear Bermuda shorts to school, driving through the square of Hartville from West Maple St. to East Maple St. with her head up through the slide-back roof window of her Hillman, steering with her feet, while one of her best friends lay on the floor working the brake and gas pedals forgetting that her Father would see her  (because he spent every evening up at Vernon Wagner's Drug Store enjoying looking out the window with his milkshake), and while working at the Hartville Locker she brought cow eyes to a home football game and threw them into the bleachers.

Jackie worked on the board of elections for years in Marlboro Township, kept the books for her husband's Marlboro Texaco Gas and Service Station located on the square of Marlboro and sold license plates out of the station. She loved playing cards and was a member of two card clubs. Her and her husband always had a huge garden where she canned everything possible but not always with enjoyment.

She is survived by her son, Randy "Lee" and daughter Zoe Anne (Dave) Werner, three grandsons, Gage (Sasha) and great-granddaughter Kendelynn, Travis (Sarah) and great-grandson Jaxon and their baby daughter due in May, and Stoney; two sisters, Lindalee Sourini and Rosalee Haines; sister-in-law Marg Haines and many nieces and nephews.

Loving thanks to Dotty Haines, her bestie and to the Class of 54 gals who met once a month for lunch at Samantha's.

No services will be held. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department.
