Jacob Miller Jr.

June 13, 1941 — June 11, 2026

Jacob Miller, Jr., age 84, of Hartville passed away June 11, 2026. He was born as one of 16 children to the late Jacob L. and Fannie J. (Sommers) Miller and was a part of Lake Center Christian School’s first 1st Grade class when it opened in 1947. He then completed his Junior and Senior years in Pennsylvania, graduating from Johnstown Mennonite School. Jacob spent most of his career as a carpenter and at age 59 went through the Police Academy in Mahoning County and worked for the Portage County Sheriff. He loved to fish, had a love for photography and bird watching. Jacob also enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and other Westerns, listening to Neil Diamond, and was quite the cook, hosting several Sunday dinners. A meal cooked by Jacob was always a treat.

He is preceded in death by his wife Catherine in 1966; siblings Floyd Miller, Willis Miller, Grace Gingerich, Catherine Hartzler, Ruth Pankrantz, Marie Thomas, Dorothy Miller, and Alta Miller.

Jacob is survived by his children Cyndi (Charles “Buzz”) Markovich and Jeff (Lisa) Miller; grandchildren Stephanie (Gary) Trump, Jacob, Samantha, Noah, Ryan, Cody, Isabella, and Olivia; 4 great grandchildren; siblings Virginia Fenske, Martin Miller, Glenn Miller, James Miller, and Calvin Miller.

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Altercare of Alliance for their dedication in caring for dad these past few years. A special thanks to Absolute Hospice for the care and treatment they provided in his last month’s.

A private family service will be held.

A celebration of life service will be held for the community at a later date with details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
