Jack Phillips "Smitty" Smith, age 85, went to join his son Jim, father Harry, and mother Helen, Brother Bobby, and sisters, Shirley, Vera, Beverly and Glada at 11:00 A.M. June 18th. Smitty was born July 25, 1922, was a 1942 graduate of Lehman High School, he also attended Kent State University and Ohio State "Go Buckeyes". He was the former owner of Donewell Roofing Co. and served in the Merchant Marines. His many interests included all sports especially football, he never missed a chance to talk about his glory days at Lehman wearing his beloved # 33 jersey, stock car racing at Canton Motor Speedway and his # 21 car were some of his favorites. Smitty and his wife Shirley were actively involved in the Lehman Alumni Assoc. for many years. He was also a member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, AARP and was a Boy Scout Leader. He leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years: Shirley Smith, daughters Priscilla and Melissa Smith all of Canton. Four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Sister-in-law: Janice Clifford a niece and nephew in Florida, also survived by a niece Rebecca Kline of Canton.The family would like to thank all who helped care for Smitty, especially the neighbors on Abbott Place. Funeral service will be Saturday 4:00 P.M. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. with Rev. John Mather officiating. A private interment will take place for the family. Friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 4 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lehman Alumni Assoc. P.O. Box 8175 Canton, OH 44709 or Boy Scouts of America 2301 13th St., N.W.
