Obituary

J. Harold Groves, age 89, of Canton passed away Tuesday afternoon in Amherst Meadows. Born in Brasstown, NC to the late Claude & Bessie (Prater) Groves he was a Navy Veteran of WW II. Mr. Groves was a graduate of McKinley High School, West Minister Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Mr. Groves was retired Assistant Administrator of Sociology and Anthropology for Kent State University Main Campus, and was Minister of Music serving the North Carolina, Texas and Kansas Conference of the Methodist Church for 19 years. Memberships include the Church of the Savior United Methodist where he was Stephen Minister and Friendly Visitors and also a member of the United Methodist Men. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Audrey Groves in 2006. Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. William (Patty) Vigneron of Kansas and Mrs. Barry (Cindy) Carnes of Tennessee. Son: Jim (Kris) Groves of Massillon. Seven grandchildren: Jeff (Jennifer) & Jimmy Vigneron, Robert Mayle, Heather & Jennifer Groves, Samantha & Collin Carnes. Six great grandchildren: Lexus & Mercedes Mayle, Cameron Farnsworth, Savannah and Logan Mayle, and Paulette Hays. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 710 Tuscarawas St, W. with Rev. Edward Fashbaugh officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 525 Broad St. Canfield, OH 44406.
