Irene G. Blocker, age 97, of North Canton, passed away on Monday September 24, 2012 surrounded by family members. She was born in Chicago, IL on December 11, 1914 to the late William and Regina Goldberger. Her formative years were spent in Chicago IL and Miami FL, where she graduated from High School and Business school. She worked at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. She corresponded with Ray Blocker of Canton during his service in WW II. They were married on January 20, 1946 and raised their family in Parkersburg, WV where they owned and operated The Workingman's Store, a retail establishment. She was actively involved at the B'nai Israel Temple where she was active in Sisterhood, Hadassah, City of Hope, ORT and other community organizations. In Canton, she was a member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue. She will always be remembered for her smile, her charm, sense of humor, concern for others and her unconditional love for family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray A. Blocker; 3 sisters Essie Mittleman, Helen Isaacson and Rella Good and 1 brother Rudolph Good. She is survived by daughter Judy (William) Simonet of Orlando, FL, son William (Diane) Blocker of Canton; grandchildren Joshua, Michael (Bethany) and Adam Rutenberg, Aric (Andrea), Hugh (Elisha) and Robert Kinast, Jon, Scott (Lizette), Steven (Catherine) Simonet; and 7 great-grandchildren Ben, Sam, Kate, Desmond, Michelle, Alex, and Lucas. Funeral services will be Thursday September 27, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Arnold Funeral Home with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. Final resting place is Canton Hebrew Cemetery.
