Howard S. Rubin Jr. lost his battle with cancer on Aug. 30, 2010. He is survived by his wife Constance; his daughters, Ellen of Albany New York and Alice of Olympia, WA; and his brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Mindy Rubin of Canton. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Howard S. Rubin and Blanche Wenar Rubin, and his sister Irma Rubin. Born in Richmond, VA on Oct. 20, 1948, Rubin graduated from the former Lehman High School and received a BS Degree from Purdue University, where he was a member of the Purdue Drill Team and Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity, and a Masters of Management from Vanderbilt University. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, with a rank of Major. For 20 years he owned three personnel placement and temporary help agencies in Canton and Akron, receiving the President's Award of the Ohio Association of Personnel Consultants and the Snelling & Snelling Chairman's Award. He also served for eight years as Director of Development of The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, OH, following years of service on its Board of Directors. During eight years as Vice President for Development of the Stark Community Foundation, he also served on the board of the NE Ohio Assn. of Fundraising Professionals and as Stark County chair of Leave a Legacy. An avid hiker, camper, amateur photographer, and former Eagle Scout, Rubin served for many years as a Boy Scout Leader and volunteer and took joy in sharing his love of the outdoors and nature. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be directed to The Wilderness Center, Planned Parenthood of Northeast Ohio, the Stark Community Foundation, or an environmental organization of your choice. A memorial service will be Thursday 4:00 p.m. at Temple Israel with Rabbi Leah Herz officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Temple.
