Obituary

Dr. Howard Golden Dr. Howard Golden, age 95, passed away Sunday December 6, 2015 following an extended illness. Born on February 1st, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio Howard lived there until he graduated high school in 1938; afterwards attending Ohio University, receiving a BA degree in pre-dental studies. In 1942, Howard was inducted and served for three and a half years in the Army's Armored Force. After his Army discharge, Howard was able to apply his love of research by having his research articles published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation . In 1950, Howard graduated from The Ohio State University dental school. Following his marriage to Benah, they lived for 20 years in New Philadelphia, where son Lyle and daughter Julie were born. Howard was a member of the Tuscarawas Dental Society. When he moved to Canton in 1973, Howard became a member of The Stark County Dental Society. He retired form dentistry after 55 years. Howard was a long-term member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue and a former member of Temple Israel. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Benah and loving son Lyle; his father Samuel I. Golden of Santa Barbara, California, sister Phyllis Condry of Brookings, Oregon and brother Robert Golden of Silver Springs, Maryland. He is survived by his daughter Julie; sister-in-law Anna Lee Kahn of Dallas, Texas; nieces Lisa Betros of New York and Bobbie (Lee) Osborne of Brookings, Oregon; Dr. and Mrs. Neil Cantor of Pepper Pike; Mr. and Mrs. Sid Rosenbaum of Virginia Beach, Virginia and a number of cousins. Howard wishes to recognize the following persons who were wonderful, supportive and cared for him like family: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Altman, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Heinle and family, Rita Applebaum, and Mr. Ben Mandzuch. Howard appreciated the family-like support and assistance from the professionals at Jewish Family Services and St. Luke's Nursing Home. Graveside services will be Thursday 11:00 AM in Canton Hebrew Cemetery with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. Memorials may be made to Shaaray Torah Synagogue and Jewish Family Services, Food Bank.
