Herbert Harrold Saul, age 89, of Fairlawn, passed away Friday evening February 16, 2007 in his residence. Born April 6, 1917 in New Brighton, PA to the late Dora and Ellis Saul, Herb graduated from school in New Brighton, attended the University of Michigan and received a BS degree in Business from The Ohio State University. He earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Retailing. In Pittsburgh, he was merchandise manager for Frank and Sedar Dept. Store, then moved to Muskegan, MI to manage three Grossman Stores. Other career positions were for Newman's Dept. Stores in Cedar Rapids, IA, Berman's Dept. Stores headquartered in Dayton, OH, and Stark Dept. Stores in Canton which became O'Neils. Herb was manager at the 30th Street Store. In 1981, after a short time of on the road selling, Herb joined a partner to form Traditions Limited in Akron, OH a business with 18 sales persons, a factory in England, a factory in Akron producing suede, leathers and canvas. Herb was a member of Temple Israel in Canton, active member of the Jewish Community Center of Akron where he served on several committees. He enjoyed swimming at the center and swam 50 miles each year. He was an active member of Hakoah. He also enjoyed playing golf. Survived by his wife of 25 years Catherine (Kay); sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and Norbert Lehrburger of Pittsburgh, three step-children,: step son and wife Paul and Suzanne Speyer of Painesville, step daughter Ellen Speyer of Columbus, and step daughter and husband Susan and Greg Grimes of Hilliard; and five grandchildren, Markee, Lindsey and Zachery Speyer, and Lee and Jake Grimes. Funeral services are Tuesday 1:30 PM in Temple Israel in Canton with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
