Obituary

Helen Meyer Follen, age 88, of Hopkins, Minnesota, formerly of Canton, passed away on Saturday night January 22, 2011. She was born in Canton on December 8, 1922 to the late Joseph E. and Sarah (Lucy) Meyer. Helen graduated from Villa Angela Academy, Ursuline College in 1946 and Loyola University, where she received her Masters in Social Work. She was a case worker for Catholic Charities in the Cleveland and Youngstown Dioceses. In Ohio, Helen was licensed for family therapy and adoptions. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the National Association of Social Workers, and McGregor's Bag Pipe Band. She was an exemplary social worker who made house calls to the elderly, visited foster homes to ensure children's welfare, meticulously evaluated adoptive families and listened to all who entered her door. She was a beloved colleague, friend, sister, mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed. Preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Follen in 1990, she is survived by her brother Edward Joseph Meyer and his spouse Linda of Canton, her children Dr. Michele Follen and David Burns of Houston, TX, Sarah and David Munves of New York City, NY and Charles and Meleah Follen of Minneapolis, MN, her grandchildren Angus and Calum Mitchell, and Nicholas and Lucy Munves. Calling hours are Friday February 4th from 4-8 PM at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday February 5th 10 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Canton with Fr. Ronald Klingler celebrant.
