Obituary

Hazel E. (Gillis) Pietroski, age 93, of North Canton, formerly of Weymouth, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2012. Hazel was born September 16, 1918 in Cambridge, MA to Walter and Etta (Cummings) Gillis. She was preceded in death by husbands Kenneth Fitzpatrick and Thomas Pietroski and brother Daniel Callahan. Hazel is survived by daughter, Cricket Boyd and husband Ted, of Canton, OH, son Kenneth Fitzpatrick Jr. of Santa Barbara, CA, and step-children, Helen Smith, Martha Yappel, Thomas Pietroski and Ann Crawford, seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Hazel lived most of her life in Massachusetts. She moved to Canton in 2000, following the death of Tom. With Tom she traveled to many parts of the world, Hong Kong, Hawaii, London and Paris. One of their favorite trips was to San Francisco to visit family, enjoy the restaurants and ride the cable cars. She enjoyed reading and always had a book going. Hazel was great at clipping articles and sending them off to friends and relatives. Hazel was faithful to her church and her God. She loved all who were around her, her family, especially her grandchildren, who called her "the kissing grandmother", and her friends. She thrived on fun and laughter, parties and dancing, lobsters and oysters, colorful scarves and dramatic hats, and always loved a good joke. Hazel was a hot ticket. In her last years Hazel lived at The Windsor, North Canton, where she was kidded regularly by staff and residents about her Boston accent, and where she enjoyed the staff's loving and tender care, and finally at the end, the gentle touch of those at Aultman Hospice. Funeral mass services at St. Paul's Catholic Church will be private with no calling hours. A funeral mass service will be held in the spring at St. Francis Xavier Church, South Weymouth, MA, following which her ashes will be placed with her first husband, Kenneth Fitzpatrick. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift for Hazel Pietroski may be made to The Home For Little Wanderers, 271 Huntington Ave, Boston MA, 02115, or to Compassionate Care, c/o Aultman Hospital, 2600 Sixth St. SW, Canton, Ohio, 44710.
