Obituary

Harry M. Homer, age 91, of Canton, passed away on Friday afternoon June 7, 2013 at Brethren Care Village. Born in Canton on February 21, 1922 to the late Marvin B. and Eva (Powell) Homer, Harry graduated from Lehman High School and attended Miami University. His commitment to his country was very important and prompted his enlistment in the Army Air Corp on September 25, 1943. He was a WW II Army Air Corp Veteran, 1st Lieutenant, and had been an instructor and in charge of two specialized navigation training schools. He was a dairy farmer near Louisville for 35 years and practiced numerous advances in dairy techniques. During that time he served as secretary-treasurer for the Milk Marketing Inc. He enjoyed golfing, collecting antiques and especially a rich retirement traveling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Jean. They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this October 1, 2013. Also surviving are his 2 daughters and sons-in-law Cynthia and David Purnell of Ligonier, PA, Jill and Kennard Meng of Jeromesville; grandchildren Tracy Meng of Austin, TX, Drew and Tami Meng of Orange County, CA; great-grandchildren Harrison, Luke and Phoebe Meng; and sister Jane Dickerson of Falls Church, VA. He was preceded in death by siblings Mary, Charles, William and David Homer, and Louise Taggart. Visiting hours are Tuesday 12 noon- 1:00 PM at Arnold Funeral Home Canton. Funeral services are Tuesday 1 PM in the funeral home with The Rev. Dr. James B. Simons officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
